Friends of Iceland - so WHAT?

This "friends of Iceland"-thing is getting way out of hand. Everytime there is some little gossip article, about, for exsample, how Harrison Ford got drunk in abar and punched sb (this did not happen, as far as I know; I just made it up as an exsample), the article would start something like this: "The friend of Iceland Harrison Ford..." That´s because he´s been here two or three times, and says he likes the country and might come bask sometime. And therefore, he is labelled a "friend of Iceland" (only here, obviously), like every other celebrity that comes here is. But now Iceland is becoming "the place to go;" everybody wants to see "the country where people bathe in hot springs (so not true), the mountains are covered in ice (only the few glaciers), waterfalls are everywhere, and geysers spout boiling water every 10 minutes (only one or two that do that, as far as I know), etc.etc."
I think it´s just plain stupid to try and keep track of all the famous people that come here and say they like the country. Everybody does!
Anyways. This "friend of Iceland" thing has simply gotten out of hand. Right now, Julia Stiles and Forest Whitaker are here to be in a movie by Baltasar Kormákur, and everywhere people are talking about haw they saw Julia Stiles running, or they saw Jeremy Renner, who is also in that movie, in a club partying. And the main TV-station is going along with it too. They´ve already shown two of Julia Stiles´ movies; 10 Things I Hate About You and Save the Last Dance. I expect that over the next months, they´re going to show all the movies she´s been in. It´s riddiculous.
Anyways. I must stop being such a naughty girl; not studying when I should, but stay up until 2:02 am reading books. I am going to study for the algebra quiz tomorrow. I so need to!
Oh, by the way: mom, Björgvin and Sigrún Ugla came back from Scotland on Sunday, and guess what! They brought back three books for me! And I´ve already read two of them! They are: The Princess Diaries vol.6: Sixsational, Missing-Series vol.1: When Lightning Strikes, and the one I have yet to read is Missing-Series vol.2: Code Name Cassandra.

Nighty night!

p.s. saw Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie, on Saturday. it´s nothing compared to the tv-series!

I just realized something...

...That three of the four bands that I listen to the most are named after some person: Travis - don´t know what person that is, but obviously it´s a name, - Rooney - that band, I think, is named after the principal in Ferris Bueller´s Day Off, - and Keane - they named their band after some old woman who used to babysit for them when they were kids, her name is Cherry Keane.
The other band is Maroon5, and as far as I know, there is no person called that...
Another funny thing I realized (well, I´ve never really thought about it until now...) that there are only men/guys in all those bands! And yet another funny thing: The only woman musicians I listen to are not a part of any band; Dido, Nina Persson and Lene Marlin. OK, I guess I should include Atomic Kitten and Spice Girls (personally I think they went down-hill when Geri left...they just weren´t the same), but they´re just exceptions. I almost never listen to Atomic Kitten, and only to Spice Girls when I´m feeling especially nostalgic.

Well, it´s late and I gotta go to sleep. Instead of a QotD I´ve decided to put the lyrics for a really good song by Rooney, I love that song; it´s so sad!
I think there must be something wrong woth me. Most songs that I looove are sort of sad!

"That Girl Has Love"

I don't know a lot about her
But she, she knew a lot about me
Her family seemed to love her
If what they say is true
Her friends all share the good times, man
That girl has love
That girl has I, I didn't have a clue then
That a kiss would change my whole life again
She walked into my room
When I was all alone
She told me I would date her from September till December
She doesn't know things will never be the same again
She'll always be seventeen
That girl has love
She kept all the pain inside
Now she has got nothing to hide
At such a young age she took her own life
Now she's seeing things that come in our dreams at night
She's a dreamer
That was too real to ever be fake
That was too strong to ever be forgotten
That girl has love

Nighty night!

Merry Christmas!

So it´s official. Christmas is only 67 days away! It started snowing yesterday, so it was nothing if not appropriate that we started practicing Christmas songs in choir.
Oh, Lord, how I love Christmas songs! I know many kids wish that "Christmas could be every day," mostly because of all the presents, but I don´t want that. But I do wish that Christmas would come, say, maybe twice a year, so we could practice Christmas songs all year round!!!
Anyways, we start so early because there´ll probably be no practices in December, because of the exams. Then there is the Christmas concert a couple of days before new year´s day - which, sadly, I can´t be at, because I´ll be in Ísafjörður - so there will most likely be practices every day between the exams and the concert day, that aren´t holidays, that is. And since I won´t be at the concert, I probably won´t have to go to those practices.
Tear.
I love choir practices, and I love singing! Every Monday and Wendesday at 6:30 PM I walk home with a song in my heart.
The songs that we started practicing today are In dulci jubilo, a classic Christmas song which exists in many versions, but the version that we are singing is the most beautiful I´ve heard so far,and I´ve heard at least three; it has 5 vocals - soprano, mezzo soprano (I´m a mezzo), alto, tenor, and bass. It is so amazingly beautiful, that I get goose bumps practically every time we sing it!!!
Another song is called "María í skóginum" in Icelandic, but I don´t know what it´s called in English. Directly it´s translated "Mary in the woods," but I´m pretty sure it isn´t called that. Anyways, it´s such a beautiful song. I don´t know what else to say about it.
The last song that we got sheet music for today (well, I already had it since last year, but whatever) was "O, Holy Night" ("Ó helga nótt" in Icelandic). Unfortunately, we didn´t have time to practice it, and besides, the choir teacher thought it was way to early to start singing it. I was so disappointed, I think any time is right for singing such an awesome song. It´s really hard to sing at first, what with all the high notes and all, but when everybody gets it right, it´s wonderful.
Well, enough about beautiful Christmas song, and more about the snow!
So, there really isn´t a lot of snow, just a hint of a few snowflakes on the pavement and tree brances; the snow melted as soon as it landed on the earth last nigh. But the weather is the kind that announces that Winter is definately here; strong, ice-cold wind, that freezes noses, toes and fingers that aren´t wisely wrapped in thick mittens. I madee the mistake of going out today without a scarf, and boy did I regret that!

Wellwell, I suppose I must take a break from this blogging nonsense and do my algebra homework and continue working on my lecture on Brynjólfur Sveinsson bishop, that lived from 1605-1675, and was apparantely a very important man. When pilled his name out of the hat (figure of speach, there wasn´t any hat...) I was so dissappointed, but now I´m glad; I´ve learned a lot about this great man, and found out some "juicy" stuff about him. And there´s even a picture of him on the 1000 isk. note! I had no idea that was him! I didn´t even know he existed!

Amerika ist wunderbar

he new Rammstein song lyrics are brilliant. Here´s a part of the chorus:

We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika
Amerika

And:

We're all living in Amerika
Coca Cola
Wonderbra
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika
Amerika

And:

We're all living in Amerika
Coca Cola
Sometimes war
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika
Amerika

Brilliant, eh?

I bought a new skirt yesterday. I think it fits great with the top and shoes I´m wearing to the dance on Thursday. I´m not sure if I should call it dance, since it´s a lot bigger event than just a dance. I suppose it´s similar to the American and British (don´t know if it´s in other countries) prom, except it´s not only for seniors and it´s not at the end of the school year.

I almost went into a long description of my outfit, but at the last moment I figured it would be too boring.

I babysitted Sigrún Ugla last night while mom and Björgvin went to the theater. She cried for what seemed like ages before she finally fell asleep on my shoulder while I was singing to her. It was so uncomfortable, I had no idea what was wrong; I had just changed her diaper, I had given her a bottle of milk, which she drank quietly, but started screaming right after she finished it, so I gave her another bottle. That she didn´t drink quietly; she cried, and drank, cried, and drank, and then I put her on my shoulder (she would not tolerate me putting her down for one second) and she burped a LOT, but still didn´t stop crying. So I walked aroud and walked around, and then I remembered that mom had told me what her favourite song was, so I sang the only line I knew for her a few times. Then I got bored singing just that line, so I sang practically all the slow songs I´ve been learning the last couple of years. At last she stopped crying so loud and just sobbed for a while, and then, finally, I could feel her sliding a little bit to the side, and I saw that she was alseep. Oh, how good I felt.
When I was certain that she was fast asleep, I went downstairs with the baby moniter and got ready to watch the movie I´d rented, Trainspotting. Right at that moment mom and Björgvin came home, and they watched the beginning woth me. Mom hadn´t seen it before, but she had heard that it was really disgusting, and didn´t want to watch it all, so she and Björgvin just went to sleep after about 15 minutes. I didn´t think it was nearly disgusting as I thought, but disgusting it really was! But I´ve seen more discusting movies - for example Requiem for a Dream - about drug addicts and that kind of stuff. I only closed my eyes once, and that was when...
SPOILER!!! If you haven´t seen Trainspotting but plan to, don´t read this:

...the baby died. It was so gross, she was so green and stiff and.... ugh.

SPOILER DONE! Feel safe to read ahead!!
But otherwise I thought ot was both funny and "ugh." It isn´t listed as a drama/comedy on imdb.com, only as drama, but I thought it was funny sometimes, and not because I´m really unsensitive, but because it was obviously supposed to be funny, wich it was.

Well, I think this is just about long enough. I suppose I must go to bed.

I am...

abbey road
Abbey Road

Which Beatles Album Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

Cool. I feel like I´m finally done.
Not.
There are so many things I haven´t done. I have quite a few long-term goals, for example:
°Read all the classic books
°See all the classic movies (including all of these. I´ve seen 35 of those)
°Own all books by Meg Cabot, the books that she wrote under the name Patricia Cabot, too
°Go to a Meg Cabot book signing
°Go to a Travis concert
°Visit the US of A, 'Australia, (France again), Italy and Great Britain of course
°See (at least) Stonehenge, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and maybe even Machu Picchu, if I´ll ever be in good enough shape to get there (it´s a long and hard hiking, the Inca Trail, that is)
°Get a BA and an MA at a good university
°Get a book (even books) published
°Get rid of my epilepsy

So I think I´ll have to stick around for a while, if I´m going to do all of these things.

By-the-by, I saw Star Wars Episode IV last night (Oct. 1, that is) and Donnie Darko tonight (Oct. 2 obviously). I almost fell asleep during SW, but I had to see it, because it´s #10 on the imdb.com´s list of 250 best movies. I really liked Donnie Darko, which is also on the list; #91.
Well, I s´pose it´s time to go to bed.
Nightynight.
