Goodbye Grandi!

So mum brought the computer home again today. At least one more post before the big day.

Today was my last day at Grandi. The batteries in my pocket radio were dead, so I had nothing to listen to except the grr-ing machines in the factory, for eight hours. But for once, I didn't mind; for, barring lack of future job opportunities, this was my very last day at the fish factory. From Monday to Thursday I worked from 7:55 (well, I kinda overslept on Thursday, so I didn't start until 8:40 then) to 19:00, but today I only worked till 16:10. (I shall be rolling in cash by the end of next week. Watch out stores of Edinburgh; I will be going on a major shopping spree.)
It was nice. When I was finished, I smiled. And I smelled.
No wait, that was a massive understatement: I didn't smell - I stank. Of course, that's no news flash. I always reek of fish stench when I get home. When I'm in the factory, I'm not so aware of it, but when I get home - whoa. It hits me like a hammer in the face.
But, thankfully, That won't happen again. I don't plan on a career in manual labour. Can working in a fish factory be considered as manual labour? It sure can be hard work sometimes; my back, and for some reason, my left elbow, ache like hell right now.
But enough about that.
I'm going to stay with my dad, stepmum and my other half-brother Danni in a summer house this weekend. They're staying there all week, but I think I'll come back home on Tuesday. Mum is freaking out because I haven't cleaned my room till it's spick and span yet, I've only had time to sweep the floor, and I still have to wash a few pieces of clothing, which I shall (to her much delight) put in the washing machine tonight and in the dryer tomorrow morning. Mum also insists that I pack my clothes and all the rest of my stuff before I leave (around noon tomorrow) so it'll be ready on Tuesday. She says she doesn't want to clean my room, and I'm all "Mum, please, I will clean my room, I just haven't had time for it yet, but don't worry, I'll have Tuesday to do it!" And she's all "I don't like it when things are postponed till last minute! *grr-s in frustration*"
So I better be off to pack my bags. See ya, some time!

Kim Larsen & Kjukken

I've been listening to Ras 2 a lot lately, at work. I've heard a few Kim Larsen songs there, and I have discovered that, in spite of his nationality, age, music genre; he is actually quite cool. Maybe for the same reasons as why he shouldn't be. The fact that he's Danish makes him unbelievably cool and funny and ridiculous, at the same time. No songs are funnier than ones sung in Danish. Danish rap is even more funny. It's simply hilarious.

This might be the last time I blog in a couple of weeks; my comuter is all packed down, it leaves on Friday, but I'm not sure when it'll arrive at our new home, or when we'll get the internet. So. Next time you 'hear' from me, I might be all moved to Scotland! Yippee!

Dougie Payne has a good voice

I'm listening/watching a part of a Travis concert on TV, that they held in Hamburg sometime. Dougie Payne, bass player and back-up singer, is singing some new song that, as Fran Healy, singer and guitarist, said, they're still practicing (or were at the time). Dougie should sing more; he's got a very good voice, just as good as Fran's. Actually, he wrote and sang one song that was released on Travis' album Singles, The Distance. That is an awesome song. But then again, ALL Travis songs are awesome, only to a different degree.

Quoting this article: 'Travis songs, intrinsically, are built to make you happy.'
This is very true. They, indeed, do make you happy. They make me happy, at least. If they don't make you happy, then you should have somebody with a medical degree peek into your brain and see if anything can be done about it.

Help!

My name is Katrin and I am a Beatles freak.

I rented Help! on video last night. Really funny, but not half as hilarious as A Hard Day's Night. I don't think any film can beat that one, though Yellow Submarine comes pretty close.
My dad, his wife and my half-bro are in town. I met them today, we went hither and thither, and on the way, I got delicious ice-cream and two T-shirts; one with a picture of the members of Queen and at the bottom of it it says “Bohemian Rhapsody" - uber cool; and the other one has a picture of The Beatles and it says "The Beatles at Carnegie Hall." Super uber cool.

Yesterday I went to Office1Superstore and traded the rest of my used schoolbooks (except a few that they couldn't take) for a store credit slip for 8502 isk. Then I spent what felt like a half hour looking for stuff that I could actually use. Sure, there was some stuff that I could use - but this is an office supply store. In which everything is cheap. Finally, I ended up buying 6 coloured Uniball pens, a Faber-Castell eraser, pack of 12 pencils, a pencil sharpener, a really cute notebook, Jane Austen's Emma and The Prime of Miss Jean Brody by Muriel Sparks (books that were on the schoolbook trading market (???)). And I also found, in the very un-extensive collection of CDs, DVDs and VHSs, Green Day's latest album American Idiot (I loke some of their songs, but I never would have bought the CD if I didn't have to spend 8502 isk in that store) for only 1999 isk, and a special 2-disc DVD edition of Braveheart, one of my mum's favourite films. I've never seen it myself, but I think it's about time I do, after all it's about a huge event in Scottish history. And Mel Gibson's in it. And it won an Oscar. And it only cost 1999 isk. Four good reasons to "buy" it.

I went to see Sin City tonight. It is, as I suppose you all know, a very unusual film, the blood notwithstanding. It's an interesting combination of grotesque killings and black-and-white/colour film. It's been compared to the Kill Bill films, and it sure has just as much blood and gore, but I think the only things that those films have in common are the dozens of liters of blood and Quentin Tarantino. Ooooh, don't I sound like the experienced film critic...Heh.

Oh F. Time for little ol' me to skip to bed. Maybe read a little Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince before I lay my precious little head on my pillow. I'vee been a horrible fan, even though I went to the midnight opening at the bookstore and stood in line for an hour before it opened, I'm still only on page 190. This is almost perfectly unacceptable. Here I am, having been waiting for this book for two years, and I haven't found a decent four hours (in a row) to read it? I'm beet red with embarrassment.
Alright alright, I'm going now.

Nightienight!

The pros and cons of working standing in a fish factory for 11 hours straight

Pros:
Moneymoneymoney

Cons:
Back pains
Exhaustion
Fish stench
Numb hands
Sunny days spent
in a windowless
factory

My torturer ^

My Auswitch ^

In other words, I had to work three hours overtime today, Monday and Wednesday. If my boss asks me to work overtime tomorrow (he asked me today; not everybody were asked, only those who were working at the redfish machines and some others. It's hard for me to say no, especially to my bosses), I will say that I can't because I have to babysit my sister. In fact, hypothetically, I could, because my mom's comong home from Greenland tomorrow and Bjorgvin has to pick her up from the airport. But really, we're all going to go get her. She's been gone a week, and we all miss her like hell. Sigrun Ugla keeps calling her, she's always sayong "mamma mamma mamma." It's so cute. Sometimes she will say "dada-ai," which means Katrin. I'm always trying to teach her to say my name.

Well, I must rest. I'm not gonna be rolling in any more dough if I fall asleep by the convveyor belt!

Gosh how time flies......

22 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

It's quarter to 1 AM...

... and I really feel like having a glass of Coke. I've had, hmmm let me think... about 5 glasses today. Give or take a glass. So I think I've had more than enough caffeine for today. I'm never going to fall asleep.
And I want more?

My new haircut! I hope to have my hair dyed redder a.s.a.p. Even though my mum (British vocabulary....) insists that this shade is good, and that a redder shade would only make me look paler. I don't give a damn about that. Mum said the same thing when I told her I was going to get red hair before the first time I got it dyed. Mum's always say stuff like that.

Less than a month...

30 freaking days!!!
Or, technically, 29 days and about 10 hours until we leave for Edinburgh.

Whoa. Time flies, my friend. A few months ago, people were always asking me if I wasn't nervous - moving to another country so soon etc., and I was all "nah, I'm just looking forward to getting the hell outta here..."
Now, when there's less than a month to go, I'm starting to get nervous. Sure, I am looking forward to "getting the hell outta here," but you know...

Not much to do at work today; word on the street that one of the trawlers broke down so there's not a lot of fish. The bosses are totally on edge, and I think most of the time today they weren't sure what to do with us. So thank God, there's no overtime this week. Maybe we'll even be sent home early some day, and then I will run as fast as I can to the hair salon to get my hair dyed. Redder.

Despite the lack of fish, the smell has made my nostrils as its new abode. And it sooooo won't even look at the eviction notice.

Man, am I good at making metaphors. Watch out Seth Cohen.

On Thursday I'm going to pay for 298 developed pictures off my digital camera. It'll cost around 11000 isk. I didn't think of that until afterwards. But so what; I can afford it, and I have never got any of the 800-sth pictures I have taken with it since I got it for Christmas developed, so I say it's just about damn time.

Cry me a river

I just watched what I think might be the best film I have ever seen, the French film that was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign film and best music (and should have won!); Les Choristes. It's just plain beautiful. So good, and a bit sad, but sort of "happy" at the same time. And the music, omigod. The moment the little kid who always sang the solo, Morhange, opened his mouth, only to sing "do re mi fa so", my eyes started leaking. And they pretty much didn't stop leaking through the whole film. Not because it's sad, but because it's so beautiful, and the music... oh, I already mentioned that. Whatever: Les Choristes is an amazing film in every way, and I strongly suggest that everyone who hasn't already seen it, should immediately go to the nearest video rental and get it. I so want to own it, or at least the soundtrack. I just looked it up to see if I can get it here, but apparently not. I'm still going to look, just in case. I simply have to have it.

Geez. Mom and Bjorgvin just watched Shall We Dance, and right now they're dancing in the living room. They took a dance course when mom was in her first trimester, and they're freshening up on they're moves. So while I'm drying my eyes and washing away the black lines that go from my eyes and down my cheeks, they are smiling and laughing and dancing.

Now it's only 34 days until I move, and 49 days till I start my new school, James Gillespie's High School.

Live8 tomorrow, from 12 PM to 12 AM. I'm going to watch as much as I can, because I want to tape it when Travis and Keane go on-stage. I wish I could be there in the London concert, in Hyde Park. It must be an amazing experience.

Well, gute Nacht!

QotD: "You gotta hand it to the Catholics; they do grief better than anyone." -Bree, Desperate Housewives

p.s. I have short hair now. Well, not very short, but shorten than I've had in a few years. Maybe I'll post a picture soon.
