The Tart In Me
I'm thinking about going to this fancy-dress party that a girl from school is having on Friday to raise money for her gap year (not working at the GAP, but taking a year off from school before going to uni) - 3 pounds entrance. There's a theme - Tarts and Vicars. Obviously the girls are supposed to dress as tarts (British for slut or prostitute) and the guys as vicars. That's an interesting theme, isn't it? Although I think it would be funny, too, if the theme were Tarts and pimps. Then the guys would have put a little more thought into their comstumes, like us girls, and not just find black pants and shirt and a white collar. But maybe they wouldn't be able to afford all the "bling." :) Just kidding. I already have an outfit ready, which I think is "tarty" enough - I've got these black gloves that go all the way um to my forearms; they really finish the look. Mom had them (but she's not a tart, not at all!). I just need a pair of "tarty" shoes and fishnet tights.
I'm finally getting Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 3 on DVD! I just ordered it from Amazon.co.uk for only 61.21 pounds, including delivery fees! It's the fancy collectors edition set, you see. I get it so cheap because there's some amazon user selling it, but it's brand new, factory sealed and all! Yay! Exclamation mark exclamation mark exclamation mark!!!!!

Fate
I got my birthday present from mom and Bjorgvin today. I got a sort of "gift certificate" on my birthday, for a decent desk chair, as soon as we got to Scotland. The one I had then was the one I had got for my eighth or ninth birthday, and I can't say it was very comfortable, even though it had some sentimental value - after all, I'd had that chair for half of my life. Anyway. I didn't take it with me when we moved, and I've just been using some bamboo chair that came with the apartment until now. I only remembered my birthday present yesterday, and today we went to IKEA (all in all, I think it took us about an hour just to get there) and both Bjorgvin and I found a desk chair (he had actually decided to get himself one, before we remembered my present). I personally think mine is way more comfortable, though his is a bit prettier. But I knew, as soon as I saw my chair, that that was the one for me. You know how all the IKEA products have some Swedish design name (though some sound like they're just made-up words, but whatever)? Well, this swivel chair with castors is called JOAKIM. Like my cat who, as you devout readers might remember, was put to sleep almost a month ago. I mean, isn't this just like fate? That less than a week after I find out that a soul that I have known and loved for more than thirteen years is no longer among the living, I come across something by the same name as his? OK, so it's just a chair, but now, to me, it's way more than just a chair. It's something that reminds me of him, something that represents him. At least I've got something that's called Joakim. So what if it's a chair? It's a comfortable desk chair, good support for the back and all. It's my Joakim now. Of course it can never replace him, but then again, nothing or no one can.
Sorry if I'm a bit too corny tonight.
I just watched Taxi Driver. Man, that is a weird movie. It's on the Top 250 list, so of course it's a must-see. But I had no clue what it was like. Man, Robert DeNiro's character was one weird guy. And I thought there would be more of Jodie Foster (who played the child prostitute - I'm sure everybody who's heard of that movie knows that) in it.
Anyway. Let the good times roll, even if you meet a bump in the road now and then.

New pictures
I finally, finally, put all the pictures I took on the choir trip to Copenhagen in June '05 on the internet. I made a new account on yahoo.com, because it's a lot easier to put pictures there. Doesn't take as much time as Webshots. So here they are. Enjoy.

Things to do when you SHOULD be studying but don't HAVE to
->Read the last forty pages of any book whose ending you like ->Start reading another book which you like (even though there's a book on your nightstand of which you have 60 pages left and started reading in May) ->Go online ->Go into the kitchen and eat anything chocolate (even if you don't *need* it, hormone-/estrogen-wise) ->Gaze out your window ->Ponder ->Back to #2
I went downtown on Monday to cheer myself up, and by golly, the weather was so cozy that it alone made me smile. It was windy, a wee bit of rain - and I did not sweat in my made-in-Italy wool and cashmere mix coat, like usually. It's finally the time of year when wearing outdoor clothing pays off, and I am loving it. I tell you, it's just plain strange to be outside and not wear a coat, or a parka, or a jacket, or something. Anyway. I, as per usual, threaded HMV, Virgin Megastore, Fopp on Rose Street and on Cockburn Street (hehe), in search of season 3 of Buffy. And, as per usual, I did not find it. What I did find, however, was a huge sale at HMV - up to 70% off CDs, DVDs and books, I think, too - which I just couldn't let go unnoticed by me. So I bought Les Choristes (amazing as ever) (The Chorus - has anybody followed my advice and watched it yet?) for £9.99 and a 2 disc collector's edition of Almost Famous - both the original theatrical version and Untitled: The Extended Cut. After watching the extended cut, I don't think I'll even bother watching the theatrical version again. Even if the extended cut is 2 1/2 hours. It's got loads of special features, too. And guess what it cost.............. £5.99. At home, this would probably cost at least 2500 isk, possibly more. So I would say this was a bargain beyond all. In Fopp on Rose Street I found a pleasant surprise: singer King Creosote (of whom I'd never heard of before) with his guitar promoting his new album KC Rules OK by performing right there and then in the shop. He's actually quite good, and I considered buying the album, but I decided to maybe buy it later, but not then. Anyway, I stayed there for more than a half hour, thoroughly examining every other album and DVD while listening to him. Then I walked to Fopp on Cockburn Street (that name doesn't cease to be funny...), and, finding nothing there, took a peek next door in this tiny record store called Avalanche. Tiny, but immensely cool. There I found Donnie Darko: Director's Cut in a Limited Edition 3D Packaging - extremely cool :), and it only cost £ 7.99. Is that a bargain or what?
Oh, and by the way: I dyed my hair red last night. The semi-permanent I dyed it with a couple of months ago was fading frightningly.

In memoriam
Mom got home from Iceland today. She was there reading from her new un-released book at a book festival. She was there for a week, and apparently was veeery busy; she had cocktail parties to go to practically every day - she even went to a cocktail party at the president's house! She came bearing bad news from home. On August the twenty-eighth, my cat Joakim, who's been living at my ex-stepsister's house (which, incidentally, is also my half-brother's dad's house), had to be put to sleep. Permanently. It was the best thing for the poor cat. He was more than thirteen years old, which is practically ancient for a cat (more than 68 in human years). But still, that doesn't mean it isn't hard to lose him. Knowing that I'll never see him, stroke him, hug him, ever again. It was hard enough to leave him behind when we moved, but now I won't even be able to see him when I visit Iceland on holidays. It was also hard for him to lose us - he had become so depressed, the poor thing. He had stopped washing himself (although he might have stopped that before we left, but we didn't really notice. Oh, we neglected him :´( ) and had stopped even going outside to urinate. It was very hard for Aldis (my ex-stepsister, who was technically also his owner) to have to put Joakim to sleep. Apparently she took him to the vet, who told her it would be the best thing for the cat, but she just couldn't go through with it. But she went back to the vet two days later, when she realised that it was the only way to put him out of his misery. Aldis couldn't bear to tell Matti (our half-brother) herself, so she asked Valli (Matti and Aldis's dad - I know; complicated family) to tell him. He still hadn't told Matti when mom got there, so she had to tell him (Valli told her right after she came). Matti cried when she told him, but was mostly surprised and frustrated that nobody had told him sooner. He just always thought that Joakim was outside when Matti was home, and didn't have a clue. I also cried when mom gave me the news. I just realized that I, who like to think of myself as Joakim's best friend, hadn't been told, even when I talked to mom on the phone on Thursday. She probably thought it would be best to tell me in person, though. I'm gonna miss him. I always (usually) didn't mind that he slept on my bed with his dirty paws, in fact I found it kinda comfy to have him laying on top of my duvet when I was in bed. It was comfy to feel his weight on my feet, or my tummy, or on my pillow right next to my face, with fur in my nose (OK, that part wasn't too comfy, but still...). Aw, I've had that darling kitty since before I remember - since I was five! I can barely imagine not to have him around. Actually, I'm kind of ashamed that I haven't missed him more. That is not to say I haven't missed him at all, because I really have. And now I miss him even more. And now he's gone forever.
R.I.P. Joakim Boxersson.

GRRRRRRRR!
I was watching Charmed on Five, and I was a bit surprised that suddenly Piper had a two-month-old baby named Chris, in addition to Wyatt, that is, and Chris the Whitelighter was gone, and Paige had dark hair. And apparently a whooooole lotta stuff had happened since last week; storyline of 11+ months passing between two episodes? So I went online to take a better look at this (episode guide on tv.com - never fails), and guess what. The episode that was on tonight is the first episode of season 7, but last week it was episode 6.07. "Hmm," I thought: "how can this be? Why on earth has Five decided to skip seven-effing-teen episodes?" "Beats me," I told myself. "I just hope episode 6.08 will be next week - I am not too happy about missing those 17."
Buh-bye.

Sally can wait
My German teacher either thinks the curriculum she's teching now isn't challenging enough for me, or that I need more vocabulary, because she's given me a German book to read by myself. As in, the whole class is not reading this book. I think there are two or three others in the class to whom she gave this book. "My" copy is in such a bad shape that Ms Malcolm (the teacher) has wrapped the cover up in this brown wrapping paper (you know the kind, right?) in a frail attempt to keep it useable. (Observe my original choice of words...) The book is called Hamide spielt Hamide and is about some Turkish girl in a German school. I haven't started it yet, and to be honest, I'm not really looking forward to it. But getting back to the reason why Ms Malcolm wants me to read this book - I'm leaning towards the former, at least I would like that better. How embarrassing it must be that I'm taking classes with 16-year-olds, and I can't even keep up with them? Hell no, I'm thinking I've at least learned a little more German than they. I mean, they haven't even started the imperfect tense, and most of them have been learning German for 4+ years! I started taking German in tenth grade - three years ago! Anyways. Moving on. I went down-town (or, more like, up-town) today to buy a brithday present for my cousin Sandra Run. I bought... nah, I'm not telling, she might read this before she gets it. (I hope you'll like it, Sandra!) I stopped by in three record stores to see if I could find Buffy season three on DVD. Nope. I found seasons 1, 4, 5, and 6, but no 3. I did, however, come across (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY, the Oasis CD I've wanted for a while now. And it only cost 6.99 pounds. I'm telling you, considering how cheap the CDs and books and DVDs here are, I'm surprised I don't buy more of them. And that's saying something. I'm gradually discovering the incredibleness (home-made word??) Wikipedia.org. It's amazing how many articles are there; I've found the articles about the Reform Acts in 19th century Britain to be very useful, and just now I've discovered that there are articles about Oasis, their songs Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger (and more), and all of its members, Travis, all of its members (ohmigod I just saw that Dougie is married to the woman who played Diane in Trainspotting! oh.mi.god.), some of their amazing songs, all of their albums, and so so much more.
Oh crap, it's fifteen past one AM. Must go. Night night!

Anya: "And they have no purpose that unites them, so they just drift around, blundering through life until they die. Which they know is coming, yet every single one pf them is surprised when it happens to them. They're incapable of thinking about what they want, beyond the moment. They kill each other, which is clearly insane. And yet here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting, but they do. They never... they never quit. So I guess I will keep fighting too." -Buffy the Vampire Slayer | -: Trina

I had a really weird dream the other night. It was long and complex, but I'm not going to bore you to death by writing a script. I just want to tell you about one part.
You see, there's this guy who's in 'regi' just across the hall from me, and he's got really pretty hair - pitch black, shiny, shoulder length (not girly, though) and surprisingly clean (I could tell once when I happened to walk down the stairs right behind him). I say surprisingly clean because usually if a guy has shiny hair, it's because of lack of washing - just greasy. Anyway, I dreamt that he had a twin brother, and they looked exactly the same, only the brother had short hair. Their hair was so pretty that not only did I want to touch it, but also ask them what shampoo they used. Alas, I didn't a chance to do either of those things, for one reason or another.

Wow!
I just saw a squirrel run under a car, right outside my window! So cool! This is my first squirrel-sighting, not counting the tiny glimpse that I got of a squirrel scooting between bushes in the Zoo (not in an enclosure though - what zoo keeps squirrels?).
1813 is a year, but it is also the number of words in my Media essay. Yes, I have finished it! Just for fun, I shall now include some interesting things that happened in the year of 1813:
The first pineapples were planted in Hawaii. Dr. David Livingstone was born ("Dr. Livingstone, I presume?") Rubber was patented "Uncle Sam" was 1st used to refer to U.S. (Troy Post of New York)

1180...
... isn't a year. Oh no. It's the number of words that I've written of my Media essay - due on Monday - about representations in the film Braveheart. And guess what? It is not even finished. I have a pretty specific recipe of how it's supposed to be, and since 10:30 AM today I have been writing the first 5-6 paragraphs, out of 9. None of you probably know this, but it was in the news here recently that British kids were getting better and better A-level/Higher results, but not because they're smarter, but because fewer are taking subjects considered "harder", such as modern languages, English, maths etc., and more "easy" subjects, such as P.E. and Media. OK, I won't deny that Media is an unusual subject and even fun (watching movies in class - as educational value of course, e.g. Braveheart), but I certainly don't think it's easier than, say, German. I guess that's mostly because I've never taken Media before so it's all quite new to me.
Anyway. There's this awesomely cozy video rental place on Marchmont Road, not far from my house, which is tiny, but the collection is, like, tenfold the collection of an average Blockbuster. The upper part of the walls, that are not covered in DVD- and video spines, are covered with cut-out pictures from movies of actors and actresses. There's even a second floor, which is more like a tiny loft, and the ceiling there is so low that it's also covered in pictures. And the staff there are soooo nice. I rented three videos there last night ("3 videos for 2 nights for £5"); Ginger Snaps, Wuthering Heights and Roman Holiday. I watched Ginger Snaps last night, and my gosh is it gross.
Ah well. Must continue writing this essay and/or tidy up my room. Saturday's cleaning day.

Stufffffff
This is what, in addition to a pair of Accessorize earrings, I got my mother for her fortieth birthday, which was on Saturday:
I would very much like to have this CD: %20Morning%20Glory%20(Big).jpg)
Because two songs that I indeed love very much are on it. I also really want this:
Because I've never actually seen season three. I went to Fopp the other day, when I saw Buffy DVDs in the window at a ridiculously low price (25 pounds) and went in to see if they had season three. They didn't, so I settled on season two instead. Now I've got no.1, 2, 6 and 7 on DVD, and most of no.4 and 5 on video (which I taped from TV). Only no.3 missing. Pity. In my personal opinion, the first part of season 6 and the latter part of 7, and maybe no.1 too, are the best. I just love Buffy and Spike together, And Andrew was totally tehre for the comic relief in the latter part of season 7, when they knew the world was (allegedly) going to end and all. Andrew and all his gaiety. But I'm not to fond of evil Willow. Although the black hair and eyes are cool.
Ah, well. Enough for now. Nighty night!
