Normal

Being a woman and believing in equal rights for men and women, I'm always glad to hear about women getting high or "important" positions, e.g. when bank directors or PM (both of which happened in Iceland recently).

There's just one thing. I don't think I should be glad to hear about it, it shouldn't be such a milestone if a woman - or any person of a minority group; obviously women aren't quite a minority, being half the planet's population- is president or PM. It should be completely normal! We shouldn't have to be proud that women are in powerful positions, we should feel it is just as natural as men being that.

Lost?

I just realised that the entire two years that I lived in Edinburgh, I always carried a city street map in my purse.
Even though I knew, at least, my neighbourhood, as well as the city centre, like the back of my hand, I was always prepared for getting lost.

However, I don't think that says anything about how much of a "home" Edinburgh was to me - I mean, if it really were my home, would I need a map to find my way around? Well, obviously!

The truth is, even here in Iceland, my home country, I carry a miniature street map in my purse - I'm actually still getting to know the neighbourhood I live in now (put together I've lived here for 2 years... so there!).

And Edinburgh is kind of a big city, and sometimes I needed to venture into the suburbs...
