So...

...so the big day is tomorrow, also known as b-day.
In 11 hours I will be 18. Most kids - sorry, people - would be jumping up and down with excitement, but me, I'm more like: "Hmmm... whatever."

I finally, finally, found my now favourite movie on DVD, Saved! I watched it today, and omigod, not only did it remind me of how much I love this movie, but it also how very very much I love Patrick Fugit. Man, I wish I knew him. Wait, I don't wish that. Ok, that too, maybe. But I wish I had him. Maybe, when I'm done with school, I just might move to Salt Lake City. If he still lives there, that is.
Okay, I know I'm getting a bit too "stalkery."

Buh-bye, see you next week!

No more MR!

Well, I think I'm now officially done with MR. I finished two years, and what's next for me now is to finish school in Edinburgh, hopefully in James Gillespie's High School, which is only a couple of streets away from the flat that we will be living in (15 Leven Terrace!).
So I got my grades yesterday, and good news (for me, at least); I didn't flunk anything! I got a 5 in math, but that's kinda what I expected. The grade that I am especially proud of, is English. I got a 9!!!!!!
And yes, I know that you are all surprised; I mean, I have been blogging in English for more than a year now, and I know for a fact that it is understandable, so why shouldn't I get a good grade in English? Well, I didn't think I did especially good on that final. It's the direct translation that always drags me down (my grades, that is). I was also kind of unsure about the essay part; we could choose between a few topics from The Importance of Being Earnest to write about. I think that it is safe to say that I may have written it a bit too... how can I say this... informal - not really the writing style that is appropriate for school essays. In fact, it was more like a blog entry or sth.
But apparently the teacher didn't think it was such a big deal. And I am SO glad, because English was one of the four subjects that I chose to take next year (though I'm not positive that there will be room for me in that class, it's probably one of the more popular subjects. It would so be the end of the world if I don't get in.), and I'm pretty sure that a good grade might help my case a little bit. The other subjects that I chose are history, German, and media studies (sounds like the most perfect class for me - I just hope I get in).
Anyways. I went to the school office today to get my report card which had been translated to English so I can send it to JGHS. Looking at that, I saw that MR is called a "four year college" and that I have completed two years (ok, I already knew that... :)). Both my grades for this year and last year were on that report card. I could see that my grade average has dropped 0.32/10 since last year. That's not a lot, now is it?
So I guess that was my last visit to my beloved "four year college!" Farewell, MR! I shall miss you! You will always hold a special place in my heart!

I went to Penninn (The Pen) today to exchange my old schoolbooks, which I obviously don't need anymore. There's this special offer now, that if you go there with your old books, you get half of the credit slip in money. I had to take the bus to go to the only store where this special offer is, and since I was babysitting I had to take Sigrun Ugla with me, in her stroller. I though it might be a bit hard - you know, to get on and out of the bus and all that - but it was a piece of cake. Actually, the bus I took uptown had a couple of steps (even in the middle door, which is especially for people with, e.g. baby strollers or bikes), but luckily there were some guys that were also going on the bus that helped me (veeery cute guys, I might add. I thikn they were about 20..... hehe). I asked them in Icelandic, and thanked them in Icelandic, but just a couple of minutes later I heard them speak English. With a British accent. So they were obviously tourists. Which kinda surprised me; they fit in quite easily.
Anyways - back to the old books. I'm glad I went, because even though I couldn't exchange all of the many, many books that I had, I still got almost 13.000 isk for them, and out of that 6.457 in cash. I can use the rest of the money - the store credit slip - to buy books; good books, like books by Meg Cabot (though I don't think there's any book by her that's due to come out this summer), and I know there's a new Gossip Girl novel out now and it should come to stores here soon, and then there's always good ol' Harry Potter (but HP6 won't come out until 49 days from now). Anyways - I'm sure I'll find some good use for that credit slip. My motto: You can never have too many books.

Well then, I guess your eyes are getting a bit tired now, after reading this 851 word essay. (Man, if only I could write real essays as fast as this!)

Have a nice day...

I was babysittting for my little sis today, and yesterday and will be for the rest of the week. Today we went for a walk together (she sleeping in her pram, of course), to Landakotstun (the field around Landakotskirkja - the Catholic Catherdral in Iceland), where I swung and read in the swings on the playgroud there (not both at the same time...). We were there for more than an hour, she slept soundly and I was buried in my book. The weather was perfect - sunny but not too warm, a slight breeze, only a few clouds in the otherwise clear blue sky. I pretty much smiled the whole way, both to there and back.
Ah, I love life.
So.
In less than one week I will be eighteen years of age. I was born on a sunny Sunday morning - Whitesuntide morning, to be exact - at 8:38 AM on May 31st Anno Domini 1987.
Next Tuesday I will officially be an adult. Mom and Björgvin have been reminding me of that for the past month, so much that I'm actually starting to wonder if I really want to grow up. So I'm going to try and make this one week pass as long as possible.
After all, it's the last week of my childhood.

Okay, now I'm on the verge of crying! I want to be a kid for at least another year!!!!!
I mean, it's cool to be 18 and all (if I remember correctly, 18 is the drinking age in the UK...), but it comes with a lot of responsibility, money-wise and all. I have to ask for alimony from my dad myself now, because he's not legally obliged to pay alimony anymore, even though I (or we) need it just as much as before.

Anyways.
It's been a good day, and I hope tomorrow will also be good. But I get my grades tomorrow, so....
I just hope they're good enough to get me into JGHS. It's a very good school, you see, and they don't admit just anybody. I'm on the wait list now, and I'll get to know soon if I get in.

Well then.

Wheeeeee!

Yes, finally, FINALLY, school is out. No homework, exams, long boring days etc. until August 17th. Although I don't know if school will be boring then, but whatever.

So the last final was on Thursday - math - and I have a MILLION words to say about that. I'm too lazy to write them all, but they include swear words in Icelandic, English, German, Danish, French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Swahili, Faroese, Italian, Greek, Hungarian, Chinese, Dutch, Portugese, Norwegian, Finnish, and maybe even Latin (can you teach me to swear in Latin, Thorsteinn Latin genius?).

Not that I did horrible or anything.......

There were just a few things that I was totally almost sure I knew, but forgot the minute I walked into the class room, and most of those things were on the first page.

It's my sister's birthday today. First birthday, in fact. I don't suppose she had a clue about it, but all the presents and cakes might have made her notice that something was different than usual.
She is starting to be able to walk by herself now. Just today she took 10 steps (though I didn't see it myself).
She can also aaaalmost say my name! When we say :" say Kaaaaaatrin" or "say Kagi" (that's what I called myself when I was little), she looks at me, makes this sorta strange smile and sometimes says something that resembles "daaaaaadi" or gaaaaaagi."
She'll get it eventually.

So, what do you think of the winner of Eurovision 2005? (I'm assuming everybody watched it.)
The Greek song was okay, but I was rooting for Switzerland, Norway (Wig Wam!!!), Denmark and Hungary - I couldn't choose between them, they were all awesome.
I'm just glad that Latvia didn't win - I'm sure people only voted for it because the boys were kinda cute. Actually, they reminded me of a duet that called themselves The Boys and were very popular in the Nordic countries 8-9 years ago. Does anyone remember them?
I'm still kinda bummed that Iceland didn't get to the finals, though; the song really was good, at least a LOT better than F. Y. R. Macedonia. You know, the guy who only got to the semi-finals because his mother chose the judging panel which had more say about who would represent Macedonia than the people. So even though that guy only got 8000 votes and somebody else got 15000, he STILL got to go.

Welll, I think this is about enough for now.

Can you BE more Icelandic than that - jeans, woollen socks and a woollen sweater??? As you can see, the sweater that my grandma knitted for me for my birthday came today. YAY!!!!!! I've been looking forward to this for so long (well, a couple of months); now I finally have my own genuine handmade Icelandic woollen sweater!!! It'll keep me warm next winter, I hear that it can get PRETTY cold over there in Scotland. In fact, the woman that currently lives in the flat that we're going to be living in (who's Icelandic btw) said that she just recently stopped wearing woollen socks inside.

John Lennon was a genius...

I came across a webpage with a few good quotes. One of my favourites is by John Lennon:

Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.

This one is pretty cool too:

Time goes, you say?
Ah no!Alas, Time stays, we go.
-Henry Austin Dobson

But this one is by far the coooolest:

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. -Les Brown

Then there is of course this: Non scolae, sed vitae. I didn't have to find this one on the internet.
And it's banging inside my head right now, reminding me that I shouldn't be wasting my time like this, when I should be studying for the Latin final (mooorbid, no matter what you say, Thorsteinn).
But then again, like the legend said: Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.
And I did enjoy wasting this time, although I know how I could have enjoyed time-wasting even more...

But seriously. I gotta go.
Bona nox.

p.s. I want those shoes!!!!

I heart Jesse!!!!!!!

Yes, I know what my devout readers are thinking: didn't she post a blog entry with that title a couple of months ago?
Not entirely: That one was "I heart Jess." No -e. Because this is whooooole other person. Or should I say character.
You see, the only thing I've been doing this weekend, aside from sleeping in and eating, is reading.
No, not schoolbooks. God forbid I should even touch those morbid Latin books, that will be out of my life in a matter of weeks, days before the final (which is on Tuesday, in case you MR's have forgotten).
No, this weekend I read two of those Mediator books that I got on Friday; no. 4 and 6. I had already read the former two times before, but I just couldn't resist. But after I finished that this morning (more like, around one PM), I just HAD to read no.6, the latest and last installment of the internationally beloved Mediator series, by the best YA author of all times - Meg Cabot.
I had already read no.5 two times before, anyway. So I went right ahead and finished The Mediator 6: Twilight, tonight. And I so do not regret having spent the whole day reading. The ending was perfect, aboslutely perfect. I would love it if book no.7 were to be published, because the ending certainly had some promises of a continuance, but I guess Meg (the author) has a lot more books to write and might even be tired of writing about the adventures of Suze Simon. No, that can't be. It just can't.
Anyway, the book endend perfectly, and in a way it was the ending to the story of the seemingly impossible love between Suze and Jesse, that had started in the first book and had been heading towards through the whole series.
So, in short: I love Twilight, I love the whole Mediator series, I love Meg Cabot for being such an awesome, great writer that she is, but most of all: I HEART JESSE DE SILVA!!!!!!!

In case this little post has invoked some interest in you to see what all this fuss is about, you can read more about the Mediator series here. You can read about Meg Cabot and all her books here.

Buh-bye, you guys!

You Are 21 Years Old

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.
13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

A joke

Missing Period

A kindergarten class had a homework assignment to find out about something exciting and relate it to the class the next day. When the time came to present what they'd found, the first little boy walked up to the front of the class made a small white dot on the blackboard and sat back down. Puzzled, the teacher asked him just what it was.

"It's a period,'' said the little boy.

"Well, I can see that,'' she said, ''but what is so exciting about a period?''

''Damned if I know,'' said the little boy, ''but this morning my sister was missing one, Daddy had a heart attack, Mommy fainted, and the man next door shot himself."

What to do when you're bored at 1 AM

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to obedience and warmth.
In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved.
You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.
You would be forced to break up with someone who was insecure and in constant need of reassurance.
Your ideal relationship is traditional. Without saying anything, both of you communicate with your hearts.
Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.
You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.
In this moment, you think of love as something you thirst for. You'll do anything for love, but you won't fall for it easily.

Is it just me, or do a few things on that list clash a little, for example no.2 and no.5?

romantic
You're a romantic girl. You're kind, caring,
loving, and peaceful. You spend a lot of your
time dreaming and you're not afraid to express
deep emotion, whether it be in a poem, diary,
or words. You hope for love and affection from
your prince charming. I have a feeling he will
come around soon.

I'M DONE!!!

Yes, indeed, I am done with Danish. Never again shall I have to sit in a Danish class, writing on my table, gazing out of the window, try to sleep without looking like I'm sleeping. Those ships have sailed, my friend.

But unfortunately, there are still 7 ships still by the pier, waiting for the crew to board.
I haven't boarded yet because I haven't acquired the necessary equipment to go out to sea. I should be on my way to the store to get my lifewest and signal gun right now. But I must pack my woollen socks and boots, so I'll go to the store later.

See ya later alligators!

Your Birthdate: May 31
Your birthday suggests that you are a good organizer and manager, an energetic and dependable worker; attributes often showing success in the business world.
Serious and sincere, you have the patience and determination necessary to accomplish a great deal.

Your approach can be original, but often rigid and stubborn.
Sensitivity may be present, but feeling are likely to be repressed.
You are good with detail and insist on accuracy, but at times scatter energies.

You're a practical thinker, but not without imagination.
You love travel and don't like to live alone.
You should probably marry early, for responsibility is necessary for your stability.

What does your birthdate mean?

Is that me or what?
