Inspired

I was walking up Laugarvegur on my way home (had dinner at mum's - couldn't be arsed cooking) tonight, and as I passed the shop windows I saw all these really nice dresses. Retro, stylish, Icelandic design and all that. And I also remembered how my confirmation dress was tailor-made for me, more than 6 years ago. I had actually been talking to mum about that, but that's another story.

Anyway. I remembered how I used to sew all the time (mum even got me a sewing machine as a confirmation present; that has come in handy more often than I like to say!) and all of a sudden felt inspired to sew a dress.
I don't have an idea as to how it should be, but I'm thinking something short... I'm liking short dresses now. Pity I've only got the one! (Orange Twiggy dress.)

I don't know when I'm gonna sew this dress, or even when I'll have the time to do it! But I want to. Maybe before the English Department's Yearly Hightide... which I think is in February or March.

Maybe this dress isn't ever gonna happen at all... important part: I felt inspired!

Now if I could only feel as inspired to finish that British Literature assignment... :P

Nightmare

Wow, it's been so long since I posted a proper blog! That's mostly because I have lacked inspiration. But this morning I got one hell of an inspiration, and here it is.
I had SUCH a terrible nightmare last night, or this morning to be exact. I don't remember how it started, but this is what I can remember.
I was travelling with my mum: we were on a plane, but I didn't know where we were going. That is, the character of Me in that episode of My Dreamworld may have known, but that was undisclosed to the actual subconscious creating the dream. Confusing, I know.
Anyway. The plane landed, and in retrospective I actually don't get how I managed to arrive in a different country and not know WHICH country - a flight attendant usually says "Welcome to Iceland" or something like that on the tannoy. But in any case, I did not know where we were. As the dream went on, I slowly became aware that I must be in Edinburgh. The airport didn't look like Edinburgh BA at all, but I realised that that's where I was supposed to be. So naturally I was completely devastated when my mother informed me, quite tentatively as she anticipated my reaction, that we were in fact in Paris. WHAT???
It turned out that all flights to Edinburgh had been fully booked (ALL flights, from then on... there must be another way? But hey, this is Dreamworld, in which everything is possible.) and so she bought us tickets to Paris instead. And didn't tell me until we were actually there...
Why on Earth would I consider this a nightmare, you ask? I mean, who wouldn't want to go to PARIS? Heh, well I do want to go there. But that trip I went on with mum was supposed to be to Edinburgh - I was supposed to be meeting "everyone" again, most importantly Alina (to the rest of you: you're no less important to me! It's just that you're always there - Alina's in Germany!), so going to Paris instead meant missing all that, and missing seeing her!
And this nightmare actually felt so real, that when I woke up and looked at my digital alarm clock, instead of seeing the time, I saw the numbers 25:37(0) - i.e. the amount of money I had supposedly lost by being in Paris and missing going to Edinburgh. You see, I already bought my tickets - and they cost me 25,370 isk. That's almost 200 pounds. Actually, that is quite cheap, for Icelandair, though they don't fly to Edinburgh; I have to go through Glasgow. But anyway, usually that's the price of a one-way ticket! Because of that, I had planned on going through London, by cheap airlines, but then I found out that for some miraculous reason I could go the shorter route for less money. Shocker!
Well, you actually won't believe how relieved I was when it dawned on me that it was all just a horrible nightmare.

Ring ring

Why is it always so amusing when a teacher's mobile rings during class? And even funnier when it's the mobile belonging to a university lecturer, who's standing on a stage in a huge cinema theatre in front of a rather large audience of students? And the lecturer actually answers and says (very audibly to the rest of the theatre) to the person who's phoning: "Oh hi, yeah I'm good, I'm actually teaching right now. So we'll talk later, ok?" Or something like that.
Because it reminds us that teachers, too, are human, and even they can forget to turn off or put their mobiles on "silent".

Itchy and Scratchy

I am literally scratching my skin off, I am so itchy right now. Approx. 30% of my torso are all red and spotty from my scratching. I have some sort of rashes all over, and they itch like hell. And I don't have a clue what exactly they are or what caused them. I have already ruled out the obvious possibilities like allergies from new detergent (because it didn't hurt me before) and so on. I can't be bothered to go to a doctor, keep hoping it'll go away. If it persists into next week, though, I guess I'll have to make an appointment with a dermatologist. For now I'll just wait for it to fade... also, the rashes are largely in the chest-area, and I like to keep the amount of strangers examining that area to a minimum... Even if they are doctors. :P
One problem, though; I have to choose my clothes more carefully than usually. No wide-necked tops/shirts! That basically just leaves T-shirts and one casual-pretty long-sleeved top, which I was wanting to leave for a better occasion, but I guess I'll have to wear it tomorrow. Darn my liking for wide-necked tops!
